People are taught techniques for developing milestones or creating checklists to measure success in any field. However, success is a mindset because there is a small distance between being good and being great. When discussing SMART goals we must recognize the definition, Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound or Sensitive). These goals can motivate a person to optimal life performance whether personally, professionally, or academically.
Success is ever-changing because it can cause multiple changes or different levels. A person must not only adapt to their improvement but identify ways to improve their community. A common mindset for some people is failure is not an option, but failure can build character which can also lead to sustained success. Rigidity can also halt success therefore flexibility is paramount.
There is a common belief that SMART goals can be unsuccessful if the objective is not achieved. However, with every unsuccessful attempt breeds a learning opportunity. A situation can allow a person to learn from mistakes, identify the problem, and improve on the approach. Evaluation is very important whether it is self-evaluation, performance evaluation at your job, or academic evaluation.
Loss aversion causes a person to be affected more by a loss than a win which brings out different emotions. However, emotions can sometimes cloud judgment then judgment can impact brain activity which influences the achievement of your SMART goal. As a society, we must embrace change while also being smart, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-sensitive then ultimately it will lead to success.
